Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin

Kaoru Hitachiin (常陸院 馨, Hitachiin Kaoru?) is a fictional character in the manga/anime series Ouran High School Host Club by Bisco Hatori. In the anime and subsequent drama CDs, he's voiced by Yoshinori Fujita. In the early drama CDs, he's voiced by Kenichi Suzumura. In the Spanish dubs of the drama CDs, he's voiced by Alfredo Leal.

Hikaru Hitachiin (常陸院 光, Hitachiin Hikaru?) is a fictional character in the manga/anime series Ouran High School Host Club by Bisco Hatori. In the anime and subsequent drama CDs, he's voiced by Kenichi Suzumura. In the early drama CDs, he's voiced by Soichiro Hoshi.

Kaoru is the younger twin brother of Hikaru Hitachiin, by one minute. He and Hikaru are both in their first year at Ouran and are classmates of Haruhi Fujioka. They tend to imply an incestuous (or "brotherly love") relationship for their "forbidden love" fans. Both twins address Tamaki as "my/our lord" instead of king, due to the fact they first thought of Tamaki as "the lord of idiots."

Initially, Kaoru and Hikaru felt Haruhi's presence in the Host Club was questionable. A main contributing factor to this was that she could tell both twins apart with ease. To them, it was one of the first times that anyone had ever stepped into their world. Before Haruhi and the Host Club, the twins thought of themselves as "our world" or outsiders as "everything outside our world" because they never had any personal relationships with anyone else.

As Haruhi points out, Kaoru is not as "mean" as Hikaru. Kaoru is more thoughtful and considerate of the feelings of others. Otherwise, Kaoru is similar in many ways, and likes the same things as Hikaru, such as maple syrup, Italian and spicy foods.

In the anime, it seems Kaoru wears orange apparel when outside school grounds. Examples of this can be seen in episodes 7, 8, and 19. Kaoru and Haruhi are currently close friends.

In the manga, both twins like Haruhi. Both Hunny and Mori know of Kaoru's crush on Haruhi at the moment, although in the most recent chapter he finally told Haruhi his feelings, also giving her a kiss. He then stated was not prepared to follow through, because he cared too much about his brother, Hikaru.

Hikaru and his younger identical twin, Kaoru, are first-year students in the same class as Haruhi. The twins tend to imply an incestuous relationship, making a show of it for the benefit of the "boys love" fans among the Host Club's customers. Unlike Tamaki, their interaction with the club's customers is entirely an excuse to satisfy themselves; the "little devil" types of the club, they enjoy making a game of manipulating others for their own amusement, and are easily bored by most things. Both have a habit on calling Tamaki "my lord" (tono in Japanese) instead of Tamaki's preferred nickname, "king." When Tamaki first asked them to join the Host Club, they referred to Tamaki's speech as that of "an idiot lord."

The two of them are extremely close and dependent upon one another, seeing the world primarily in terms of "us" and "those apart from us," thus having little concern for anyone else. Prior to joining the Host Club, they had very little interaction with other people. After Haruhi joins the Host Club, Hikaru and Kaoru's world really begins to expand. Haruhi proves to naturally distinguish between the two of them and sees them as two individuals rather than interchangeable; she can easily tell them apart with her natural intuition. This is something new for Hikaru and Kaoru, as previously nobody was able to tell them apart, and they develop a fondness for Haruhi since she recognizes them as individuals. Since they also enjoy poking fun at Tamaki, they often rub their relationship with Haruhi in Tamaki's face and flirt with her just to make him jealous.

Their mother Yuzuha (柚葉) specializes in clothing design, and they occasionally provide clothing of her design for the Host Club's events or in an effort to get Haruhi to dress more femininely. When their mother appears at the school festival, she proves to have a very strong personality, and it is clear that the twins take after her. They, too, have a mutual knack for fashion, and in the manga, they are sometimes shown styling Haruhi's hair or doing her make-up. Of the two twins, while Hikaru is usually the leader, he also seems to be the more insecure one. Kaoru displays a somewhat larger measure of emotional maturity. Also, it's noted that their surname was their mother's, and that their father had married into the Hitachiin family. In the manga, it was commented by one of the twins that the Hitachiins are primarily of a matriarchal lineage and female Hitachiins are more outstanding than the males. The twins are afraid that they might end up being weaklings like their father since they resemble him, but Haruhi noted that they resemble their mother more.

In the manga, both brothers have feelings for Haruhi. While Hikaru doesn't realize his love for the girl, Kaoru didn't want to hurt his brother. So far, only Hunny and Mori knows Hikaru's crush on Haruhi. Whilst Kaoru's relationship with Haruhi is toned down, Hikaru's is more in-depth. Also the easiest way to tell them apart is they're hair!
